Whitehorse General Hospital is a newly constructed 49 bed, fully accredited acute care hospital. It serves as a tertiary care facility for the entire Yukon Territory as well as northern areas of British Columbia and parts of Alaska.
The hospital's 49 beds include 3 Intensive Care beds, 21 Medical beds (plus 3 overflow beds) 6 Pediatric beds, 12 Surgical beds (plus 2 overflow beds) and 7 Labour/Delivery/Recovery/Post Partum beds (plus 1 overflow bed). The Emergency Department and Outpatient Unit provides response twenty-four hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the hospital provides a 9 bed Surgical Day Care Unit, 2 Operating Rooms, Post Anesthetic Care Unit and a Minor Procedure Room.
The multidisciplinary patient care and support teams of our hospital collaborate with 31 general practitioners, a general surgeon, an obstetrician/gynecologist and a pediatrician to provide care, as well as various community based health related organizations, such as Home Care, Mental Health, Public Health. Fifteen visiting specialists provide clinic services such as Ophthalmology, Ears / Nose and Throat and Orthopedics on a regular basis.
Whitehorse General Hospital serves as a regional referral center for the Yukon and serves the rural nursing stations through an efficient system of ground and air ambulance as a well as consultation by various means of communication including telemedicine.
